I had a request on friend request on Facebook recently from someone I didn't know. Pleasantly, he did include a note that said that he was in the IT industry in a major Canadian city and was using Facebook to network.
Great, I thought, except I prefer to use LinkedIn for business networking and keep FB for friends. So, I replied to his message saying that and that I would be happy to connect with him over there. And I included my business email that he could send an invite to.
He sent a note back saying "no problem I understand". But I didn't then hear from him on LinkedIn.
This was over a week ago.
Now, I'm not super-concerned - maybe he doesn't network on LI. But it did get me to thinking about how I do use different social networks for different purposes. How do you use socnets? Would you have gone ahead and connected? Do you think it's futile to try and keep them separate?
Interested in others' thoughts on this!
NB: I edited this for formatting and a couple of typos after I posted it. I was trying out the Typepad iPhone app and didn't realise it wouldn't take my formatting. Ugh.
