I've been breathing a bit easier since I upgraded my Mac to Leopard and have TimeMachine backing it up to an external drive. But Rose is on a PC and we don't have a regular solution for her yet.
Apparently, saying "Just copy the important files to a USB key" once every few weeks =/ Reliable Backup Program.
So, I was delighted when my friend Monique Trottier of Boxcar Marketing let me know about a contest that one of her (and Capulet Communications') clients, PutPlace, is running.
As Monique tells it ...
(PutPlace is an) Irish tech company that is doing online, real-time file backup for PCs. The cool thing is that it also tracks where you post your stuff so, for example, 3 years down the line you are wondering where all the honeymoon photos went. You're sure you posted them on Flickr but they aren't there. You vaguely recall putting them somewhere else ... but where.
PutPlace solves that problem by tracking where you've put your stuff. I think it it as "a place to put your stuff"--a putplace.
They have a free trial right now, they are in public beta. But there is also a contest to win a year subscription worth 100 GB of storage plus $200 Amazon gift certificate.
The contest - submit your best "data loss" face.
Monique has written about it on Boxcar's blog and that's James Sherrett, founder of AdHack and Boxcar Marketing partner, in the picture.
Now, the deadline is Thursday, July 31 - so check out the details on PutPlace and submit your photos!
