Like most bloggers at the start of a new year, Dwight posted his New Year’s Resolution for 2007: to display more wisdom and benelovence (sic) to my inferiors.
The thing is …
Well, the thing is, you'll have to read what exactly "the thing" is on my One Degree post (because no one hates cross-posting more than me).

Does anyone know why the CAA Blog, "The Driver's Seat" is offline? I blogged about it back in Nov, but admittedly haven't been back since. There is an "offline notice" up right now. A one-liner .. plain text on a plain background. Weird. I checked their site, but there is no announcement.
Anyone know?
If you're going to pull it, that's OK. Companies need to experiment with what works and what doesn't, but at least give a reason (not enough participation, too controversial, too resource intensive, found a better communications tool, the guy who knew how to access the blog software quit). It looks amateurish to just pull it down like this.
Sometimes blogging isn't for every organization; I think it would be better for their brand if they made a small statement about it.

I have the pleasure (honour!) of making my podcasting debut on Michael Seaton's podcast "The Client Side". This is the second time Michael and I tried the podcast; the first time some audio demons weren't quite ready for a coast to coast conversation (yes, I know Toronto technically isn't on an ocean coast).
I had a great time talking with Michael - he's a super-smart guy in this space and always has great topics for discussion. I just don't know how he does the podcast, write his blog and still lead amazing digital marketing initiatives at Scotiabank.
Show notes (directly lifted from Michael's post) follow so you can get a sense of what we discussed. Also, this is part 1 of 2. So look for part 2 sometime in February. You can listen directly on his blog or sub to his podcast feed. Take a listen and leave a comment! Michael has an audio comments line (+1-206-666-2242) as well as comments-enabled on the post.
Show Notes for Episode #6 of The Client Side Podcast.

Last year, Caterina Fake (of Flickr fame) posted a wonderful piece entitled "9 reasons why people will *love* your website". All of the reasons she gives deserve close reading and meditation, but I was reminded of #5 today:
Because it makes them money
People like money in addition to attention. :-)
I am an Amazon Associate; I don't really do much with it because I don't use my blog as a revenue generator, but I do like getting their emails because Amazon are great marketers and they generally have some good ideas.
Their current programme is no exception. Hot on the tails of the announcement of the release date of the last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Amazon sent an email detailing the links to use for announcing pre-orders on their website. They also provided a link into their banner collections for HP7 ... a variety of ad banners with cut-and-paste HTML code all ready for you to plug into your site. Nothing for you to code; nothing for you to create. Easy peasy.
It's this kind of affiliate program that really goes a long way with keeping participants happy and active. Amazon understands that when their affiliates make money, they make money. Everyone wins (except perhaps Harry .. but that's a different post.)
So, what can you do to make your customers money? Do you have an affiliate program? Are you supporting it?
As a side note (for those of you who remember my post about blog editors for the Mac), this is my first post with Qumana. It's up to version 3 right now. I used it on the PC back when it was in version 2. It feels a lot better; seems like there is more integration between the moving parts. I still miss the image editing of Live Writer, but for me, Qumana definitely takes the lead over MarsEdit.
