One of the best things about TED this year was the drumming circle that was held on the last night after the wrap party. It was facilitated by Arthur Hull, corporate drumming guru, and Micky Hart, drummer for the Grateful Dead.
Prior to the drum circle, Micky gave a brief talk on sound and shared some gems from his work with the sound archives from the American Folklife Center in the National Library of Congress (this appears to also be part of the Smithsonian's "Save our Songs" project). Some amazing stuff in there -- stuff that was recorded on wax rollers back in the early 1900's and has now been digitized. Very exciting!
