Today at work, we discussed "enneagrams" ...
From dictionary.com
Main Entry: Enneagram
Function: noun
Definition: a system of spiritual psychology based on an ancient Sufi typology of nine personality types or primary roles with the recognition of one's type tantamount to a spiritual awakening
Etymology: Greek ennea 'nine'
The context was around using the enneagram as a diagram to understand the inter-relatedness of linear process and/or priorities in a business context. However, it is, first and foremost, a personality test. So .. I took it.
I am a strong Challenger (8) with liberal doses of Enthusiast (7) and Reformer (1). What does that mean? From enneagram monthly:
Type 8 A leader, driven to control self and environment, capable of both domination and protectiveness. Vulnerabilities and a tender heart are hidden beneath a tough exterior.
Type 7
An enthusiast with a perpetual surplus of plans and ideas, eager for experiences and/or material goods. Habitual optimism may cover a fear of boredom and pain.Type 1
A perfectionist, driven to do the "right" thing. Often critical of self as well as others, with a strongly developed sense of responsibility. Prone to repressed anger.
Yup.
I did find another interesting article that compares the Myers-Briggs types to the Enneagram types. Interestingly, my Myers-Briggs type (INTP/J depending on the day) has an extremely low correlation to my top three enneagram types.
So .. not entirely sure what to make of that .. except that I may need to take the Myers-Briggs again.
